Hill Walking in the Scottish Borders

Hawick Golf CoursePrinter friendly

The Vertish as the golf course is known, is a hill course over looking the town Of Hawick, with superb views of the surrounding countryside from its highest point the 15th hole. There are some steep climbs that may challenge the ‘older’ golfer but the views from the top of the course are well worth the effort.  Each hole offers a different challenge to all levels of golfers with a short par 3 8th that requires nothing more than a wedge to the challenging par 3, 18th hole from an elevated tee that sometime requires a wood.

The Vertish is situated to the South of New Woll Estate just on the edge of Hawick only 7 miles from the Woll Golf Course at Ashkirk.

Many other sporting activities are catered for around Hawick all at very reasonable cost to the visitor, with Angling and Hill Walking the most popular.

Hawick is the largest of the Border towns and is most famous for its historic and ongoing production of quality knitwear.  Indeed you can find many fantastic bargains on Cashmere, tweeds and other Knitwear and accessories in the many factory outlets / shops.  There big name brands and small specialist manufacturers to choose from.

Hawick’s surroundings benefit from a great pride in its appearance and the Town has regularly won national awards for its floral displays.

Wilton Lodge Park on the River Teviot is well worth a visit for a relaxing walk around the wooded banks of the river There is also a walled garden with flora displays and various other activities including, putting green, tennis courts and The Hawick Museum and Scott Gallery.
